Peter Cheung
Peter is a full-time artist based in Oakville, Ontario. Born in Hong Kong, Peter was primarily influenced by Chinese art at an early age. After he moved to Canada, Peter learned his western art knowledge at Sheridan College. Peter applies his fast and strong brush strokes from his Chinese painting experience into his western art. He draws his inspiration from the impressionist’s colour and lighting, and combining with his expressive brushstrokes, he is able to create a bold and loose painting style while keeping the subject in its most honest expression. Peter embraces painting outside, or "plein air"painting. He believes being outdoors could foster a deeper connection with nature, transforming the mechanical processes into a foundation of art with human connection. He views the canvas as an extension of the world around him: to capture a moment in time, not filtered, but reflecting the beginning of a story.
Peter is a multiple winner of juried shows, and serves as juror of many prestigious competitions. A plein air painting instructor, Peter’s work can be found in a vast array of private and corporate collections internationally, as well as in galleries all over Ontario.
