Brenda LaRose

Painter (acrylic)

Artist Statement

In my work, I draw inspiration from the serene landscapes encountered during wanderings and kayak excursions on our lake in northern Ontario. Each piece reflects the rugged beauty and tranquil moments that nature offers, inviting viewers to experience the quiet whispers of the north. Through my art, I aim to convey the profound connection I feel with these environments, where every sunrise and sunset reveals a new layer of wonder.

My creative process begins with capturing photographs while wandering around the lake or gliding across the water, allowing me to document the interplay of light and shadow, the sway of the trees, the sparkles of light on the water. These images serve as a foundation for my paintings, where I employ palette knives and acrylic paint to build texture and depth. The act of layering paint becomes a dialogue with the landscape, as I strive to express the essence of each scene. Whether it’s the gentle ripples of the water or the vibrant hues of the sky, my technique aims to evoke the feeling of being enveloped by nature’s embrace.

Ultimately, my work seeks to evoke an appreciation for the simple joys found in these lake scenes. I hope to remind viewers of the beauty in stillness and the moments that often go unnoticed. Through my art, I invite a deeper connection with the natural world, encouraging a sense of peace and reflection that resonates long after the viewing experience. In this way, I celebrate the whispers of nature that inspire my journey as an artist.
